History And Overview of “Bowen” Work for Animals(1)
by Carol Bennett, Bowen Instructor and DVD Author
While anyone trained in the Bowen Technique for humans can transpose the moves to animals there are several schools of training specifically for animals.
In the U.S. one such school is The Animal Connection Network™.
Owner, founder and developer of Animal Bowen/Touch Balancing™, Carol Bennett, a human Bowen practitioner, with over 200 hours of training in the technique for humans, began developing her course for animals in 1995.
After two years of intensive study of the Bowen Technique, including four advanced courses, and comparative anatomy, Carol’s technique, Animal Bowen/Touch Balancing™, had been formatted into a teaching course with the assistance of a team of veterinarians to verify her findings. Beginning in 1997 and continuing through 2005 she instructed her courses in the U.S. and Canada with the endorsement of the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia (BTAA).
The Animal Connection Network™, originally founded in 1993 by Carol, for her animal nutritional educational programs, is now independently offering instruction of Animal Bowen/Touch Balancing™ with a new revised format to provide more contact hours for the student and more opportunity to work directly under an instructor’s supervision.

Another such school is the Equine College of Learning and Research (ECLR) in Australia. Founder, and developer, Ali Goward offers courses in, Equine Muscle Release Therapy (EMRT) and Cat and Canine Muscle Release Therapy (CCMRT) set in two year programs. Click here for more info.
Other students of the “Bowen” method, whether taught by the BTAA or other entities, have also chosen to develop courses specifcally for animals. Some associate their work with the Bowen name and others do not.
If you are considering this work for animals I suggest you check out each schools program and decide which one offers you what you are looking for. I am sure all the work, while it may vary, has merit and will serve you well.
